Southwest Strong Small Business Grant Program Guidelines

 

 

Eligibility Requirements

Businesses must meet the following criteria to apply:

  • The applicant must be a currently operating business entity with a current business license with the City of Philadelphia and must be located within 19142, 19143 and 19153 zip codes of Southwest Philadelphia.

  • The applicant’s business has been in operation since January 1, 2019.

  • The applicant is an owner of the business and is 18 years of age or older.

  • The business must have had business revenues under $500,000 in its latest fiscal year.

 

Businesses meeting the following criteria will not be eligible to apply:

  • Non-profit organizations

  • Franchisee businesses

  • Real estate investment companies

  • Businesses that, as determined by Southwest Strong, do not provide a positive impact on the community of Southwest Philadelphia

 

Eligible Uses for the Grant

Eligible grant expenses include but are not limited to:

  • Physical improvements to business space to meet relevant reopening requirements implemented because of COVID-19

  • Equipment to comply with public health and safety guidelines (i.e., touchless payment methods, automatic door open sensors, or disposable menus)

  • Assistance to hire community residents

  • Facade improvements consistent with the City of Philadelphia’s Storefront Improvement Program (grants can be used to supplement SIP awards)

  • Fees associated with expanding the business to e-commerce sales

  • Other professional services, such as business plan modifications

  • Rent, payroll, and other operating expenses

 

Application Requirements

In order to be considered for a grant, interested businesses must complete the online application (Apply Below) or complete a paper application with the documents listed below and drop them off to at the M&T Bank branch at 6301 Woodland Avenue, ACANA’s offices at 5530 Chester Avenue, or Southwest CDC at 6328 Paschall Avenue, by MAY 14, 2021:

  • Government-Issued ID of business owner(s)

  • Copy of current City of Philadelphia business license

  • Most recent business tax return or Schedule C for sole proprietors

  • Documentation to confirm/verify use of grant funds including, but not limited to:

    • Contractor quotes for storefront or internal business facility improvement projects

    • Invoices for equipment, supplies, services to be provided

    • Payroll statement, billing statements or copy of lease to confirm expenses to be paid by grant funds
